- Step 1 – Guidelines on how to give a bicycle assembly/presentation with questions are provided in the BLAST Tutorial to engage the youth in traffic safety discussions after viewing "The Bike Channel". "The Bike Channel" DVD/Video use a fun newscast presentations of young bicyclist involved in a vehicle crash. The news reporter calls on experts to explain how the crash happened. The newcast has bicycle commercials, sport report and updates on the crash.
- Step 2 – Skills Course, outlined in the BLAST Tutorial, is a fun way to learn the seven safe bicycle handling skills needed for youth to correctly execute looking over their shoulder for cars, signaling a turn and then executing the turn. After learning the seven mechanics of a turn they will ride the simulated street skills course to practice turns. Students returning the parent permission form will ride the course on bicycles and wearing helmets. Each youth completing the BLAST Skills Course will receive a "Certificate to Ride", required learning before allowing transporting by bicycle to school.
- Step 3 - BLAST Track will keep the youth engaged in a continuing bicycle skills learning course by introducing beginning competition. Learning bicycling proximity from closely riding by others will develope necessary judgement skills for serviving in traffic.
BLAST Tutorial
BLAST DVD/Video and Tutorial Package has everything needed to conduct assembly programs followed by a hands-on bicycle skills course and introductory competiton. This age group needs to learn bicycle handling skills along with traffic rules and laws. Every aspect of the program emphasies the correct use of a helmet. The 45 page BLAST Tutorial has everything outlined in detail to conduct the BLAST Program.
BLAST Tutorial Contents:

YES, Inc. provides low cost bicycles and helmets. In some cases students are not able to bring their bicycles and helmet to school for the skills course, if so the program will need to provide them. In Los Angeles the BLAST program transported 30 bicycles in a 26 foot trailer to the schools.
